We follow our narrator and chief protagonist Rocket on his struggles to tiptoe around the violence, the drugs, the guns, and the general unpleasantness on offer in the 'City of God'. Although much like Rocket, you'll find the biggest heart-in-your-mouth moments are watching his largely futile attempts to find someone, anyone who will allow him to unsheath his 'little Rocket' That whole beast tagline makes a lot more sense now.
