The movie
Show notes
Sometimes a film's tone prevents a whimsical opening; this is one of those times. Join your favourite TransAtlantic podcasting crew: Ian, Liam, Ethan, and Georgia, as we're joined by BFF of the BFE Juleen as we head to Williamson & Garden Heights with The Hate U Give. We're discussing some big ideas and emotions in our 122nd episode (and our longest ever) as we discuss: Where you might recognize this film's lead actress from Which actor in this film was woefully miscast How 'The Talk' has different meanings depending on your community Which parts of the film maybe could have used a bit more nuance Which parts of the film had tons of nuance Does the film feel the need to pigeonhole themselves in for a 'happily ever after' ending that doesn't ring true Ian dusts off his history degree and shares the tragic story of Emmett Till We welcome Juleen to run through why she chose this film and get her thoughts on the film and the issues we discussed overall Whether or not The Hate U Give is the Best Film Ever.
