The movie
Show notes
This week on Gen Wars, hosts Nick, Stephen, Cam, and Katherine pull back the curtain on Christopher Nolan’s twisting 2006 thriller The Prestige. A movie about magicians, murder, cloning (definitely), and the most passive-aggressive professional rivalry in cinematic history. Based on the 1995 novel by Christopher Priest, The Prestige stars Christian Bale and Hugh Jackman as dueling stage magicians in Victorian England, whose obsession with outdoing each other escalates to committing acts against the natural order of things and murder. Directed by Christopher Nolan, the film features a cast full of A-listers, including Michael Caine as Alfred "Exposition" Cutter, Scarlett Johansson as the unfortunate assistant/love triangle casualty, and David Bowie as Nikola Tesla. It’s a movie about deception, obsession, and literally dying for the bit. Whether you’re here for the magic, the mayhem, or just to hear four people spiral over whether is was teleportation or just duplication, this episode is packed with hot takes, cold reveals, and way too many references to drowning tanks and duplicating cats. Like, follow, and subscribe—or we’ll reveal the twist early.
