In which the Mister joins me in reviewing THE PRINCESS DIARIES (2001), a coming-of-age romantic comedy from a script by Gina Wendkos, based on Meg Cabot's novel with directing credits to Garry Marshall. An awkward and socially invisible San Francisco teenager named Mia Thermopolis (Anne Hathaway) discovers her life turned upside down when her estranged grandmother visits and reveals she is the queen of a European principality called Genovia. Thrust into an intensive "princess boot camp" to prepare for her royal ascension, Mia must learn how to navigate high society, deal with sudden school popularity, and decide whether she wants to embrace a life of crown and duty. With the help of her loyal best friend and a stylish royal makeover, she learns to step into her own confidence just as the time arrives to make her official public choice at the upcoming Independence Day ball. The film clocks in at 1 h and 55 m, is rated G and we caught the film on Disney+ but it's also available to buy/rent on Prime Video.
